Martini Tower
Over the past 500 years, the Martini Tower burned down, was struck by lightning and nearly collapsed. Wars were won and lost on the sidewalk of this beautiful and illustrious building. The tower survived all of it, and at 97 meters it is still the tallest building in the city. Climb up for a piece of tangible history and some fantastic views.

Forum Groningen
A new architectural masterpiece has emerged in the very heart of Groningen: the Forum, a freely accessible meeting place for everyone with a certain curiosity in today’s world and tomorrow’s opportunities. The Groninger Museum was established in 1994, and has been a talking point in modern architecture ever since. This alone may be sufficient reason for a visit. Hoge der A and Lage der A
Possibly the most photographed place in Groningen, and as everything in this city; in walking distance of The Happy Traveler. The old warehouses by the canal tell the story of the industry of former days. Ships would enter and depart here and the sounds of rattling wheels and stamping horses could be heard all day long. Walking along the quays, you pass no fewer than 28 listed buildings and 11 municipal monuments, making you feel as if you have stepped right into a painting.

Train station Groningen
Right across the water from the Groninger Museum lies the central train station of Groningen. The site has nationally and internationally been prized as one of the, or even the most beautiful train station in The Netherlands. The building was constructed in the end of the 19th century, and on the city’s balcony right in front of the station, you have an amazing view on the mix of different historical building styles. So make sure to visit the station if you’re ready to be in awe of it!

The waters
From the water, everything looks different. The view from the water offers a special insight into the city: the canals sourrounding the city centre with patrician houses on both sides and century-old warehouses. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, you can continue the boat trip to Hoornsemeer, Zuidlaardermeer or Paterswoldsemeer.
